Multi-Sport athletic development

Build the athlete. The sport comes after.

STRYDE coaches speak with children during a group session.

Children do not need to choose a favourite sport early to benefit from good training.

In Multi-Sport, they experience different movement demands across Track & Field, Strength & Conditioning, Sport Climbing, Judo and Basketball. These are not five unrelated activities. Each one helps develop and reveal a different part of the child's athletic foundation.

Your child follows a mix recommended from the assessment, their interests and the days your family can manage. They do not need to attend every discipline.

Who is Multi-Sport for?

It may suit a child who:

  • is trying organised sport for the first time
  • enjoys being active but has not chosen a main sport
  • already plays sport and would benefit from broader movement experience
  • has become very specialised and needs more variety in the way they move; or
  • wants structured coaching without the pressure to compete.

The standard programme is for ages 7–12 by calendar year. A child who turns seven during the year of attendance is eligible.

What each discipline contributes

A Track & Field coach briefs children during a STRYDE session.

Track & Field

Children practise running mechanics, acceleration and rhythm. Coaches can see how they organise their steps, use their arms, change pace and maintain movement quality as speed increases.

A STRYDE coach guides a child through a barbell movement.

Strength & Conditioning

Children work on strength, trunk control, balance and movement quality through age-appropriate coached exercises. This is not adult gym training scaled down for children.

A child climbs a wall during a STRYDE Sport Climbing session.

Sport Climbing

Climbing challenges grip, body positioning, coordination and the ability to plan a sequence of movements before acting.

A Judo coach briefs children on the mat during a STRYDE session.

Judo

Judo develops balance, footwork, controlled contact and the ability to respond to another person while staying composed.

A child moves under the hoop with a coach during STRYDE Basketball training.

Basketball

Basketball gives children practice in coordination, spatial awareness, reacting to others and changing direction in a moving environment.
