Specialist Edge

Athletic development for the sport your child already plays.

A STRYDE coach guides a child through a barbell movement.

When a child already trains and competes, adding another sports session is not automatically helpful. The first question is what their current sport demands, and what their existing week may be missing.

Specialist Edge works on physical qualities such as strength, running mechanics, balance and movement control alongside school or club training. It does not replace the technical coaching they receive in their main sport.

Who is it for?

Specialist Edge is for children aged 7–12 who already have a primary sport and train or compete regularly.

It may be useful when a family wants to:

  • support the physical demands of the child's main sport
  • improve running mechanics, acceleration or change of direction
  • develop strength and movement control
  • address a recurring movement issue identified by a coach; or
  • plan additional training around a competition season.

We begin with the whole training week.

Tell us about school CCA, club sessions, private coaching, competitions and rest days. Also share any injury, medical condition or current rehabilitation before your child takes part.

If you would like guidance before booking, we use that context to recommend one STRYDE discipline for the first assessment. Track or Strength & Conditioning may be useful for a general movement question. Judo may offer a better view when controlled contact, balance or partner movement matters. The choice depends on the child's sport and goal.

What happens at the trial?

Your child joins a two-hour coached session in the chosen discipline. The coach notes what they do well, what needs work and how they respond to instruction, challenge and other children.

These are observations from one session. They are not a judgement about the child's ability, potential or character.

You receive a written assessment within 48 hours. We then discuss which STRYDE sessions may support the primary sport, how often they should attend and where those sessions can sit within the existing week.

Training should support the athlete, not overload them.

More training is not always better. We consider the child's current load, school commitments, competition season, recovery, interests and available days. Sometimes the right recommendation is to keep the week lighter.

As training continues, coach observations can inform later conversations with the family. We can make smaller adjustments from month to month and hold a broader review around three months when useful. Competition preparation can also be discussed where relevant.

Pricing

Specialist Edge begins at two sessions a week from $580 per month. It uses the same monthly fees as Multi-Sport at the same weekly frequency.

Is your child still exploring?

If they do not yet have a primary sport, or your priority is to build broadly, Multi-Sport may be the more suitable direction.
